Is a Walk-In Shower in Your Future?

If a man could simply drop his shorts and walk in to a shower, would he be inclined to take one more often? Perhaps he would if he could see something tantalizing waiting for him on the other side. And what about a woman? Could a glass enclosed, high-tech shower help wash away the stresses of her day? Could it perhaps even make her a bit more risqué?

These are compelling questions and one way to find out the answers is to install a walk-in shower and see what happens. Walk-in showers are THE latest trend in bathroom decorating. They’re sleek, contemporary, and practically maintenance-free and right now they’re more affordable than ever.

When it comes to the bathroom, too many people take this room for granted. As long as the bathroom is functional and houses the essentials, most won’t give this part of the home much thought. And that’s a mistake. Go take a look at your bathroom. Are you happy with what you see? Is it soothing and relaxing? If its appearance is somewhat sterile or worse, if it’s seriously outdated, it’s time to turn your attention in that direction. It’s time you give that room a makeover.

Need even more reasons to take the plunge, so to speak? Here are not one but six compelling reasons why Brits are falling in love with the walk-in shower.

Walk-in showers lend an air of luxury to the morning routine.

And luxury is what today’s bathroom is all about. No longer is the bath being thought of as simply the place to take care of routine, mundane business. It’s now THE place to go for pampering. With a walk-in shower as the centerpiece of the bath, it’ll be easier than ever to find coordinating fixtures no matter what your decorating style. You can accessorise to your heart’s content with stainless steel, brushed nickel, silver or chrome taps, wall-mounted mirrors, luxuriously absorbent towels, aromatherapy candles and more. You’re in total charge of creating the type of escape you long for; one that’s functional but best of all, one that’s reminiscent of the 5-star accommodations at your favorite holiday hide-away.

Walk-in showers allow room for showering with a mate.

Take a moment to let your mind wander here and just imagine the possibilities. Go ahead, be adventurous. What a great way to break out of the bedroom rut and add a bit of excitement to your life! And if those kinds of thoughts are too much for your innocent mind, just think about the water you’ll conserve when showering together. You’ll be doing your part for the environment while at the same time you can be setting the stage for lots of exciting things to come.

Walk-in showers raise the resale value of your home.

When it comes to a home’s value, you’ll almost always get the maximum return on your investment when you update the kitchen and the bathroom. A frameless, clear-glass walk-in shower will instantly update the look of any bathroom, no matter how old. Walk-in showers create a more spacious environment, which is a terrific benefit especially when space is already limited. This popular look is trendy yet timeless meaning you won’t have to worry about the money you invest – the walk-in shower you install today will look good even 10 years from now!

Walk-in showers are easier to clean.

You won’t have to spend another moment inhaling harsh chemicals while laboriously attempting to remove built-up mold and mildew from shower curtains and doors. Simply wipe down the glass when you’re finished and you’re done. You’re busy enough already so anything that helps cut cleaning time is a blessing. You’ll likely be even more inclined to keep the walk-in shower area clean so that you’re assured a crystal-clear view of what’s waiting for you on the other side.

Walk-in showers are easier for the old and young to use.

When you install a wet floor shower, you won’t have to step over any raised edges to get inside which greatly increases mobility. The safety aspect alone is the deciding factor for many. The addition of a seat and a flexible hose with hand-held showerhead means that showering will no longer be an unbearable task. Children love walk-in showers, too. And guess what? The more they enjoy taking a shower, the more inclined they’ll be to do it!

Walk-in showers are easy to retrofit into an existing bath area.

Installation is possible (and not that difficult) even on out of true walls. Walk-in showers can be installed in any recessed area or in any corner. With easy-to-follow instructions included with every walk-in shower, do-it-yourselfers can handle most installations without hiring a contractor. You likely won’t need to hire a plumber, either!

So there you have it – several reasons why you should consider installing a walk-in shower. You’ll benefit, your home will benefit and quite possibly, your love life might benefit, too!

Doormats For Your Home

When you want a quick and inexpensive new look in your home consider a change of rugs! Doormats and accent rugs can be an easy way to spice up your home and are a fun way to welcome in the change of seasons.

There are thousands of different types of doormats and accent rugs available for your home. Some can be personalized with your name or your street number. Some have pictures of seasonal characters such as pumpkins and witch's and snowmen and Santa Claus. Others show wildlife such as cardinals and bluebirds and some show flowers like sunflowers or fall leaves.

Some indoor doormats and accent rugs look like expensive oriental rugs, but are safe indoors or out. Made with polypropylene or olefin these are all weather outdoor rugs that can withstand blistering sun, rain and snow. They won't fade or mildew. They wash easily with a squirt from the hose.

Some manufacturers are making decorative doormats and accent rugs with coco. Coco is great at trapping dirt at the front door. Coco is an extremely durable fiber which won't pill. Coco is quick drying and mildew resistant.

There are some very decorative doormats that are silk screened and printed with durable inks. These doormats will withstand heavy traffic and have UV protection.

If you have a very sunny entryway to your home you may want to consider a plain mat, unless you don't mind replacing that faded one a new one every few months. What you can do is consider one of the newer doormats made of rubber or one made of aluminum.

Doormats made of rubber are gaining in popularity. These doormats are non slip and resist mold and mildew and fading and clean very easily with a hose. They come in many intricate designs and different shapes.

A very classy way to say "welcome" to your guests is to have an elegant aluminum doormat. These can also be personalized and are offered in protective powder coatings of black silver, copper, bronze and pewter finishes. These are very heavy mats that will not move under foot. Mats made of cast aluminum will withstand many, many years of outdoor use.

Insulated Concrete Homes 101

In this article I wanted to talk a little about ICF - insulated concrete forms.

With growing concerns about health, quality of life, energy costs and natural resources rapidly being depleted, an increasing number of homebuilders around the world are turning to “green building.” This natural approach to homebuilding emphasizes quality construction, energy efficiency, good indoor air quality and livable neighborhoods.

There are many companies that sell this new green construction building blocks.

they are basically foam forms with plastic ribs that are built into the foam, rebar is set inside them and then they get filled with 3000 psi concrete making an air tight home with about a R-50 - which is very green.

A Healthier Home : On average, we spend an amazing 90% of our time indoors, yet inside air can be ten times more polluted than outdoor air. Unhealthy air inside can pose serious health risks such as cancer and respiratory ailments like asthma. Properly ventilated green ICF homes can have far fewer problems with mold or mildew and the fresh air inside will keep your family breathing easy.

The cost is about 10% more compared to regular stick frame construction.

People report savings in utilities of up to 60%

There are a myriad of tax incentives and rebates offered in the USA and Canada for new residential and non-residential green buildings. Listed above are a couple of links to give you a sense of what is available.

If you are considering building with ICF you have to know about these programs. The problem is that these programs are listed all over the place and finding the right forms and information is usually a time-consuming and painful process.

A Quietly Comfortable Home

A ICF home is a serene and quiet place that is insulated from intrusive outside noise from traffic, neighbors and the like.

Energy Efficiency : energy efficiency is the cornerstone of every green home. Green ICF homes tend to be up to twice as energy efficient as traditional homes built to code. Improving energy efficiency and using renewable energy sources are effective ways to reduce the potential of energy supply interruptions, improve air quality, reduce the impacts of global warming, and slow the rate at which we need to build new power plants. Energy efficiency also makes good sense for home-owners: green ICF homes are more comfortable and cost much less to heat and cool.

A Strong, Durable and Sustainable Home

Concrete walls are one of the most durable building materials available and are designed to last for centuries. ICF walls are over 8 time stronger than conventional wood-framed walls and are able to withstand the damaging effects of strong winds and dangerous storms.

Black Mold spores unseen

Toxic<a target= black mold"> Don't underestimate the harmful effects black mold can have on your health. Many home owners live and breathe unknowingly with toxic black mold in the air. Imagine eating dinner and mold spores are right under your nose - literally. Now you understand how black mold can seriously have a huge impact on your health and way of life. Rather than give up and live with this toxic mold invasion, there are people who can help. Mold Removal Specialists, also known as mold remediation specialists are trained, licensed and should be insured to defend against this toxic mold invasion. Always think ahead, because remember, health deteriorates the longer the body is exposed to it. Testing to see if the effected area can be cleaned or removed is the answer.

Try to make sure the home you're living in does not provide opportunities for toxic black mold to grow rapidly. The first thing you need to do is keep the humidity levels down in your home - particularly in the kitchen and bathroom areas. Another place that black mold growth is prevalent is the closet area.

Black Mold seems to be on the rise and testing, and ultimately removal, should be done if the property owner is concerned about the safety of the occupants. Black mold needs to be tackles right away and the best way to do that is to contact a mold removal specialist.

Cylinder Sleeving VS. Cylinder Plating

Do you need to determine the best method of cylinder repair? This article will help you weigh the pros and cons of the two most popular methods of cylinder rebuilding.

Modern small displacement engines use a variety of cylinder types. There are iron type cylinders and plated type cylinders. Original equipment manufactures (OEM) produce many variations of both types and all are excellent performers and very reliable. The only real issue is how do I repair my cylinder after a failure? You may think you'll never have to face that problem, but if you keep your vehicle or toy long enough you will eventually have to make this decision. In the following article I'll try to make that decision more enlightened.

Recent History of Cylinder Types

The oldest and most common method of cylinder design is a cast iron block that is machined with a cylindrical bore directly from a solid casting. There is also a cast iron block that incorporates a sleeve that is pressed into the iron block. Generally iron block motors weren't very successful in small engines. Most small engines were used in vehicles and equipment that needed to be light and mobile. This made cast iron blocks undesirable for this purpose. There were a lot of single cylinder motors used in lawn mowers, construction equipment, scooters, small tractors and small motorcycles that used cast iron block motors in the early years. These began to disappear in the 60's and they were replaced by aluminum block motors with cast-in iron liners. This opened the door for new lightweight motors that could be used in many more applications and in bigger displacements than ever before. This was accomplished by placing a cast iron sleeve into the mold before the molten aluminum was poured into the mold. This made the sleeve an integral part of the cylinder block. The sleeve usually had locking rings or flanges around the outside to prevent it from slipping in the casting as the engine expanded from the heat generated by the combustion process. A major problem occurred often when air pockets would develop during the casting operation around the sleeve. This caused hot spots and often caused premature engine cylinder failure.
There is another type of aluminum block with a cast iron sleeve that wasn't cast-in; it is installed in the block after casting. The cylinder bore of the aluminum block is machined to 3-5 thousands of an inch less than the sleeve diameter, block is then heated to around 600 degrees Fahrenheit, and the sleeve is dropped in. When the block cools the sleeve is held in place by the interference fit and the flange at the top or bottom of the cylinder. This cylinder can be rebuilt by simply re-heating the block to 600 degrees and removing the old sleeve and replacing it with a new one. Of course the finish bore will have to be machined to size and honed.

Near the end of the last century it was discovered that you could make a mold pattern using a computer aided molding system out of Styrofoam. This made it possible to have precise duplicate patterns of a particular cylinder that you wanted to mold of aluminum.
These are placed in a mold made of sand, molten aluminum is then poured slowly into the mold melting and replacing the Styrofoam pattern. This process is called total loss mold casting. Now all they have to do is a little milling and drilling, plate the bore and hone to size. For the two stroke market the best part of this is the finished product is an identical copy of the original. The factories love this because it just eliminated a whole lot of assembly line workers. No more absenteeism, no health insurance or pensions, and no coffee breaks. As far as the consumer goes they get a cylinder that doesn't need a lot porting before they can be competitive.

There are a lot of four stroke motors that use aluminum blocks and aluminum sleeves that are plated a variety of hard finishes. These sleeves can be removed and replaced. The replacement sleeve can be either iron or aluminum. If you want an aluminum sleeve it will have to be plated after installing otherwise it won't be true and round.

There are several types of plating that has been used over the years, and the companies doing plating guard their formulas carefully. The finish in the early years was a simple chrome or hard chrome electro-plating. The plating was generally only a few thousands of an inch thick. If it was more than about ten thousands of an inch thick it was prone to chipping or flaking because of heat expansion and contraction. In the early seventies Electrofusion became popular. Electrofusion was different from electroplating in as much as it was a fusion process instead of electroplating. Next came ceramic composites and Boron. All of these perform in about the same way as far as wear and durability. Then came Nikasil. Nikasil was a new plating formula of nickel-silicon-carbide. It was harder than the others that came before it. For years you couldn't get a cylinder re-plated when you damaged one, the only way to get going again was to buy a new one. Now you can choose from many companies doing their own version of Nikasil.

Now lets look at a persons choice of repair or rebuilding methods for their Motorcycle, ATV, Snowmobile, Personal Watercraft, or Outboard. You can have your Nikasil or other plated cylinder re-plated (or some called it re-coated). This includes the composite types.

Or you can have it sleeved with a hardened alloy steel or cast iron (when you add alloys to iron its considered steel). If your cylinder has an iron sleeve already, whether it's cast-in or not, you're only real choice is replacing it with another sleeve or a sleeve liner.

Lets assume you're an avid racer and race 25 weekends a year, you're going to need a rebuild of your cylinder by the end of the year no matter what type cylinder you have. If it is a plated type cylinder you have three choices. 1- buy a new cylinder for $500-600 for the top end and expect to do the same next year. 2- re-plate it for about $300-400 with piston kit and gaskets and figure on doing it again next year. 3- have it sleeved for about $250-350 with piston kit and gaskets and next year have it bored (most models) to the next size for about $55 plus piston kit and gaskets.

A properly sleeved cylinder will perform as well as any plated cylinder. A properly sleeved cylinder is one that has the proper interference fit, proper pre-sleeve bore finish, accurate flange machining, and sleeve made from the proper alloys. The most popular sleeve is the Moly 2000 chrome-moly iron. The proper boring and honing to match the piston clearance requirements goes without saying.

Pros and Cons

Re-Plated Cylinder Bore
Pros
*Small advantage in heat transfer
*Slightly better wear factor
*Somewhat lower co-efficient of friction
*Weighs a few ounces less
Cons
*Costs slightly more
*Can't be bored when damage occurs
*More fragile
*Can flake and peel

Iron Sleeved Cylinder Bore
Pros
*Costs less
*Bore able for future over sizes
*Hone able to keep bore true and proper ring seal
*Can be worked with common tools
*Can be replaced when needed
Cons
*Slightly slower heat transfer

The Bottom Line
Both systems perform equally well when professionally done, so it really comes down to economics. You can expect a sleeved cylinder to give more life for the money. Re-plated cylinders are as close to original as you can get. So if your happy with your OEM plated cylinder you should have it re-plated. If not have it sleeved by a company that has the reputation, experience, and warrantees to protect your investment.

Dog Beds - Waterproof Dog Beds

When you are looking for a dog bed, there are many different styles. One style that you may want to consider is a waterproof dog bed. Waterproof dog beds offer your dog comfort, and at the same time allow you to keep the bed clean and dry.

If you have a large dog, you may want to consider looking at a waterproof dog bed as a way to keep the bed from absorbing water from his coat. Often, the dog will go out in the rain or snow and will get wet and will come in with a soaking wet coat and get the dog bed soaking wet with water from his coat. This can result in the dog bed getting mold in it. This is not only unhealthy for your dog, but also for your home. Large dogs can be just as comfortable in water proof dog beds.

Puppies often have accidents when they are first training. They may accidentally urinate on their dog bed. This is another reason to use waterproof dog beds as they will not absorb the urine. Waterproof dog beds repel any liquids and are easy to keep clean. This will prevent your house from smelling as well as prevent your dog from using the bed again in this manner. Dogs rely very heavily on a sense of smell and will often urinate in the same spot over and over again based on this sense.

You can buy waterproof dog beds in all different sizes to fit your dog. They also come in several different colours. When you are buying a waterproof dog bed, you should look for those that will fit your dog when he is an adult. Many people rush out and buy dog beds for puppies, based on the size of the puppy. A puppy will grow at an accelerated rate and is usually full grown by the time he is a year old. You should look for a dog bed that will fit your dog when fully grown, rather than just when he is a puppy.

Waterproof dog beds are easy to clean which is why they are so appealing. They can repel water and any liquids easily and do not get the odor and mold that other dog beds can carry. As a result, a waterproof dog bed will last a lot longer than regular dog bed. Keeping the bed clean is one of the primary concerns you should have when you are buying a dog bed for your dog or dogs.

You can purchase dog beds online. This gives you a better opportunity to see what is out there and you are not limited by way of selection. Also, you will find that you can get a better deal when you shop online by way of price. Instead of being confined to the dog beds that are offered at the local pet store, you can choose from dozens of different styles, colors and sizes when you shop online.

When you are shopping for Dog Beds , you should look for waterproof Dog Beds as they are easy to keep clean and will repel liquids. You can find out more about these beds by going to Doggie Solutions.

Soggy, Smelly, and Stained: Wet Carpet Issues

Whether your toilet overflowed, water heater sprung a leak, rain poured in through a hole in your roof, or some other flooding calamity occurred, wet carpet must be dealt with ASAP. Allowing wet carpet to remain soaked leads to numerous problems including: organic decay, fiber deterioration, delaminating, heavy soiling, mold, and a nasty smell that may never go away. If you have a soggy, smelly, stained carpet, you've got a big problem on your hands.

Organic Decay

One of the problems with wet carpets that have been allowed to sit for awhile is that organic decay takes place. This is the breakdown of all the accumulated dirt and debris. As organic material decays it produces off-gases which you'll immediate recognize due to the strong smell. This problem becomes worse when the water that flooded the carpet in the first place was contaminated such as sewer water.

Fiber Deterioration

As the carpet remains water logged, damage to the structure of its fibers is inevitable. Not only do the fibers deteriorate, the entire carpet can loosen, shrink, or become misshaped. If the pad beneath the carpet also got soaked, it will take longer to dry out further aggravating the problem.

Delaminating

Carpets that are glued to the floor run the risk of delaminating after the carpet's been soaked. The longer the carpet remains soaked, the greater the risk of the glue breaking down. Soon, the glue holding the backing will fail and fall apart. What does this mean to you? The carpet is no longer firmly attached to the floor.

Heavy Soiling

Another issue occurs with wet carpets - heavy soiling. Even if the water that soaked the carpet was clean water, if the carpet is not cleaned and dried properly, heavy soiling rears its ugly head. Not only is staining unsightly, a heavily soiled carpet is a nasty smelling-carpet. This is because organic decay takes place. All the dirt and debris that is held deep inside the carpet and its pad between cleanings works its way to surface causing stains. It also breaks down causing the nasty smell of decay.

Mold

Mold growth is a serious concern whenever flooding occurs. Mold spores are everywhere, indoors and out, just waiting for the perfect environment to grow. Your wet carpet provides them with just such an environment. In fact, it doesn't take long before mold takes over; allowing your wet carpet to remain soaked for over 48 hours virtually ensures mold colonies.

Water Classifications

Water restoration professionals classify water as: clear/clean water, brown water, and black water.

• Clear/clean water is your typical tap water. A clear/clean water issue might involve water from the refrigerator's ice maker water line.

• Brown water is water that has come in contact with contaminates such as dirt or chemicals. For example, water leaking from a rusty water heater filled with sediment would be considered brown water. Brown water may appear clear but it is contaminated and could harbor nasty germs.

• Black water is contaminated water such as sewage. An overflowed toilet with human waste in it is considered black water.

When to Dry Out Carpet Yourself and When to Call the Pros

Clearly, drying out the wet carpet quickly should be a top priority. Should you do it yourself? Or should you call the pros? This depends on how extensive the flooding was and what type of water (clear/clean, brown, or black) flowed in.

Minor clean/clear water problems can usually be handled on your own. Simply soak up the water with a mop or absorbent towels and then open some windows and use a fan to accelerate the drying. A wet/dry vacuum can also be used to extract as much water as possible.

You also might be able to deal with brown water problems yourself. Only this time, you must add clean water and a mild detergent to the mix. Soak up the water and then thoroughly clean the carpet. Once again, extract as much water as you can and use a fan to facilitate drying. If the brown water damage is extensive or if staining seems inevitable, call a professional ASAP.

Black water problems almost always require professional help. In fact, you should replace carpet damaged by this type of water. It's nearly impossible to clean carpets and pads soaked with black water. In addition, the risk of illness is extremely high. Just as mold flourishes in moist environments, so does bacteria.

Depending on the type of water and severity of the flooding, replacing the carpet may be the only option.

The Blessing of the Lord Makes One Rich

Copyright 2005 Daniel N Brown

Have you ever found yourself being super frustrated trying to do something and not getting anywhere? It seems no matter how hard you try it doesn't seem to work.

Wherever there is an anointing on something for you to do, there should be an "ease" about it. I don't mean it should be easy, but there should be a sense of "simpleness."

Here's a good example; a person may be in a job situation that they may not particularly care for. In fact, they may absolutely hate what they are doing and maybe even feel sick before they go into work. Maybe he or she is "settling for."

It is noble to do what you need to do, but you don't have to dread it. Many people are in a job or in a relationship where they have no joy, peace, or sense of ease. It could be that God did not instruct them to take that particular job or to be in that particular relationship.

So many people are sad and discontent and continue to live their lives in disappointment and frustration because they are not doing what God designed them to do. These people are like a square peg trying to fit into a round hole. Maybe they are pursuing a task or a career that was recommended by someone who was successful at it.

What is simple for one person may not be simple for another. How many times have you seen someone do with ease what someone else could not do at all? We are not all cut from the same mold.

Everyone has a purpose in life. Some of these purposes are the same, but many are not. As mature and responsible people, we must know what our strengths and weaknesses are. Most people will say they don't know what their strengths and weaknesses are, but I disagree.

Everyone knows what they are good at and what they are not good at. The reason many people are confused is, is that they equate their purpose with earning income. Success in life is not only about income, but enjoying and loving life.

If you find yourself being upset in your spirit with no joy or peace in some certain areas of your life, it could be that you are settling for less than what God wants for you. When God anoints something for you He adds no sorrow with it (Proverbs 10:22). Instead, He gives you a sense of peaceful contentment.

He doesn't want you to "settle for." He wants you to be happy and enjoy your life. John 10:10 says, "Christ died that we might have life and have life more abundantly" and Jesus said, "Ask, that your joy may be full" (John 16:24).

There's no reason to keep putting up with a dead end job or relationship. Seek God's ultimate will for your life. The devil would love to keep you thinking that what you have is all you're gonna get. Don't believe it! Seek God's anointing and do with ease what you couldn't do on your own. When His anointing is on something for you there is a flow that just seems to make everything work.

Is Indoor Air Safe? 4 Simple Steps to Make It Safer

It is true that we spend most of our time, almost 80% of it, in indoor spaces. We’re used to worrying about the air outdoors. We complain about pollution, gas emissions and smog. However, indoor air can be more hazardous than outdoor air. That is due to the levels of humidity that are created in closed spaces, which support growth of bacteria and intensify the existing pollutants. The concentration of pollutants per unit of air can be 10 to 50 times greater indoors than out. Additionally, indoor air is perfectly absorbed and exchanged with fresh air. That leads to breathing higher concentration of pollutants per breath.

Some of the indoor air pollutants whose existence we know of include:

—Tobacco, which is generally known to cause cancer to smokers, what we don’t know is that passive smokers also run a high risk of developing cancer, nose or throat irritations, bronchitis and asthma. Additionally, tobacco smoke, being thick, is not completely absorbed and/or exchanged with fresh air. It becomes smog that sits around the house.

—Volatile organic compounds are regularly used in houses. The name is tricky but the products are simple. Perfumes and hair sprays, various detergents, air fresheners, polishers, fragrance candles… these innocent products can cause eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches and nausea.

—Pesticides and other bug repellents cause respiratory irritation, impaired lung function and may even contribute to asthma and damage to the central nervous system.

—Animal dander, dust mites and pollen from indoor plants can cause allergic reactions and asthma attacks to people with respiratory problems.

—Various bacteria also exist in our indoor air, as well as mold, mildew and fungi, which may cause eye, nose and respiratory irritation, skin rash and other allergic reactions.

—Some of the most dangerous pollutants indoor are radon asbestos, formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide and organic gases that cause respiratory irritations, nausea fatigue and headaches, contribute to lung cancer, liver and central nervous system damage.

Along with oxygen, we breathe these harmful substitutes every day. Let’s see what we can do to purify our indoor air and protect our health.

—Use air-cleaning houseplants. Houseplants have the ability not only to convert carbon dioxide to oxygen but also to trap and absorb many pollutants through their natural process of photosynthesis. Luckily, plants are very effective at removing gases such as formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, benzene and cigarette smoke. The best air purifying plants are Aloe Vera, Bamboo palms, Dracaena palms, Spider plants, Philodendrons, Pothos and Chrysanthemums.

—Ventilate your space properly. Air-purification devices can reduce the amount of pollutants found in indoor air. Clean the filters regularly. You can use filters with activated carbon, which is very effective as pollutant gases are attracted by and stick to the carbon.

— Open the windows. That will allow the exchange of indoor air with fresh air letting many pollutants to escape. Create an air cross draft to clean the air faster.

—You shouldn’t rely solely only on outdoor air to refresh your space. Outdoor air isn’t completely clean; it contains many pollutants as well. The best way to keep air healthy is to eliminate the source of pollutants as much as possible. Be on the lookout and remove all products that contain petrochemicals.

Scientific research has shown increased evidence that indoor air pollution is one of the biggest environmental risks we face. Public-health experts coordinate to bring solutions, but meanwhile, take precautions, such as the ones listed above, to protect yours and your family’s health.

Training A Dalmatian

The Dalmatian breed is one of the most commonly seen sights on T.V. There have been several movies made with this pooch as its star, and even some cartoon series. Why? Because of it's unique beauty – it is one of the breeds that has remained untainted by other breeds, remaining truly pure. The Dalmatian has been around for a very long time, but still retained its gorgeous white fur with black spots. Aside from having the look that makes it stand out, most dogs of this breed are easy to train. They have been used in many obedience competitions around the world, such as tracking.

But as I've said, MOST of these dogs are easy to train, but not all. Therefore training it will depend on you and the personality your pooch came with. The Dalmatian in general is a playful pet – it loves playing with its owners and family, but it doesn't feel the same way for everybody it meets. This pooch can have issues with trusting strangers. It usually gets suspicious of people it doesn't know, and can take their actions as something offensive. Dealing with the problem at an age where it is already mature may be hard, and will take time and effort.

So if you want things easier, start at an early age. Everybody knows that training done early is absorbed by the puppy a lot faster. At this stage you can mold its mind and behavior much easier. While it's young, pay close attention to any signs of unwanted behavior. Then, gradually let it know that you don't like what its doing. But don't be too rough are harsh, that will have negative impacts on it. Do not tolerate bad behavior, if left alone to have its way, it'll develop into something worse. Another thing to keep in mind is to show it who's in charge.

Make it aware of your superiority – keeping it in its proper place would be a good way to start discipline, but never overdo it. You may be making it fear you – from there it will associate its fear with all other human beings. This will cause sociability problems, such as being overly shy, interpreting gestures as signs of hostility, etc. When teaching it tricks, use the same tone of voice every time. Consistency is important, just as it is using the right tone of voice when issuing a command or reprimanding it. Training routines should be daily and not too long.

A Dalmatian wouldn't want to do anything that is boring, so try your best to maintain a fun atmosphere. Use motivators, such as a toy or doggy treat that is available only during training. Doing so would make it eager to train, which makes the task easier for the both of you. When it does something good, such as being a well-behaved pet or obeying a command - praise it. It does wonders for its behavioral development. Training a Dalmatian may take time, so it'll need you to strive and be patient. Having a well-disciplined and obedient dog is something achievable, and is the most rewarding gift that a pet owner can ever have.

Natural Healthy Cleaning With Tea Tree Essential Oil

Tea Tree oil is one of the most popular of the essential oils. It is one of the strongest natural antiseptics, commonly referred to as the "Universal Antiseptic." This quality makes it one of the most worthwhile ingredients in homemade cleaning recipes. Tea Tree oil is also well tolerated having no known allergic reactions.

The time has come for us to reject the chemical-laden, air-polluting, health destroying, hazardous, commercial household cleaning products. There is something wrong when big corporations are using, "Trade Secrets," which means they are free to put harmful chemicals in the products that we use everyday in our homes. Manufacturers are not required to list them on the label.

There are some companies that provide us with many excellent eco-friendly, nontoxic-cleaning products, but it is more economical and satisfying to make our own. You may notice that once you start using natural, safe cleaning products, you will not want to go back to using chemicals. The change is so pleasant to our bodies physiologically, and so soothing emotionally that we can't go back to harsh chemicals.

Clinical studies have documented the value of Tea Tree oil, which date back to the original work conducted in 1923 by Dr. A. R. Penfold, an Australian government chemist. He found that Tea Tree leaves contained an essential oil, which showed antiseptic and bacterial properties 13 times stronger than carbolic acid, the accepted standard of the time. In 1930, Mr. E. M. Humphrey published an article entitled "A New Australian Germicide." He identified that Tea Tree oil's disinfectant action on the typhoid bacilli was sixty times greater than that of ordinary hand soap. So important was Tea Tree in the 1940's that it was standard issue in first aid kits for army and navy personnel.

Tea Tree oil turns out to be one of the most useful of all essential oils, especially as an antiseptic. The antiseptic, germicidal, antifungal, antibacterial immune-boosting qualities of Tea Tree oil make it applicable to a wide range of health conditions. In addition, the antiseptic benefits of the oil allow its use as a natural cleaner and disinfectant within the household environment.

Tea tree oil has many uses for housekeeping. You can prove to yourself how well it works to kill mold and mildew with this simple test: Put 2 teaspoons of Australian tea tree oil in a spray bottle with two cups of water. Spray the mixture on something musty. Let the smell dissipate (it will take a few days). The smell of mold and must will be gone, too, never to return as long as the source of moisture has been removed.

You can make your own cleaning supplies with antibacterial properties that nature provides. You'll feel a whole lot brighter and energetic after a few hours with essential oils than you will after breathing the fumes of toxic chemicals.

Upgrade Your Property With An Attractive Fence

One of the best value for dollar investments is a property line fence. A well designed and professionally installed fence will upgrade your house and property, as well as provide security at the same time. The fencing materials that are available today can be combined in any number of ways to create an attractive one-of-a-kind feature, or installed without frills for a straight-forward security fence. By working with a professional fence contractor, you'll be able to determine the type of fence that best serves your needs, and whether this might be an opportunity to improve the appearance of the property.

There are numerous types of fencing materials, from redwood and cedar, to wrought iron and vinyl fencing that require no painting. Redwood and cedar can be installed in the standard full-height configuration, or accented with a top band of diamond lattice, to add architectural appeal to an otherwise mundane wood fence. In addition, single and double gates in a similar design can be installed at a driveway entrance and the side yard access areas. A professional fence contractor can be enlisted to fabricate custom gates in any design, or to incorporate prefabricated gates of your choosing into the installation.

Combining different types of fence and masonry materials is another way to add architectural appeal to a property. Stone or brick pilasters, with wood fence spanning from one to the next, is a popular design concept that will add value and appeal to your property. With estate property, large stone pilasters can be used as gate columns, with smaller pilasters along the property line, and wood fence panels incorporated into the layout. Some of these fence designs will incorporate wrought iron between the pilasters, while other designs, such as those for horse properties, would call for typical fence rails.

Professional fence contractors employ the latest design and estimating software that will make the new fence experience exciting in terms of viable options. Your particular property can be digitally enhanced with any number of design images and concepts to determine the ideal fence. From that point, the materials and labor are incorporated into a bottom line cost that works for your budget. The fence installation is then coordinated with other trades that might be involved, such as electrical or paving contractors, and the installation is scheduled to meet your convenience.

Some property owners and building contractors prefer to select and purchase fence materials from outside sources, then enlist an installer for the project. Depending on the situation, this approach may be cost effective. However, in most instances, these same people will discover they could have saved time and money by enlisting a professional fence contractor to arrange the purchasing and delivery of materials, and coordinate the fence installation.

The Unique Factor Of 3D Printing

3D printing is a very interesting form of manufacturing technology in my opinion. This technology allows for the creation of almost any shape, in a wide variety of materials. Some forms of manufacturing such as mold manufacturing or machining don’t have the power to hold up against the design parameters of 3D printing. Let me elaborate.

Machining typically involves material removal. A block of material, whether it is wood, steel, or a type of metal, is drilled, sawed, and cut to remove material into a certain shape. A drill bit or saw can only cut the material out in a certain way. Some 3D models used for manufacturing have very intricate centers. 3D printing is great for these models, but machining typically isn’t. If there is a model inside of a model, machining methods typically can’t even touch it! However, 3D printing can.

Mold manufacturing also has a difficult time producing some parts that 3D printing can produce. Due to the intricate centers, and “floating” pieces capable of being produced through 3D printing, mold manufacturing can’t keep up!

3D printing simply blows other forms of manufacturing out of the water when it comes down to design parameters. Sure, there are advantages for each style of manufacturing. Sometimes machining is more cost effective in some scenarios. Mold manufacturing is much easier for mass producing products. However, when it comes down to truly unique, highly detailed parts which have demanding design parameters, 3D printing typically takes the cake.

3D printing is great for very custom products, just like machining is. Having an intricate design isn’t the only advantage when it comes down to producing parts. There are quite a few more materials offered in 3D printing than in machining in many instances. Just the Objet line of materials offers over 100! There are over 50 materials to choose from at Kraftwurx. Many other printing services like Sculpteo or materialize offer around 10. There are plenty of options to choose from! This is great for very unique situations.

For example: I recently saw an article about a little girl who was born with a series of defects. This girls arms were too weak to move by themselves, so a doctors and engineers worked to help. A prosthetic piece was built around her body and arms which helped her to move her upper body. These parts were made through 3D printing, machining a piece would have been too heavy – she only weighed 25 pounds at the time. This is just one instance in which 3D printing saves the day for an individual.

3D printing offers a variety of solutions in a wide array of industries. The medical world is receiving quite a bit of help from this technology, and will continue to see more. Many prototypes are developed from 3D printing first before being mass produced. Architects & designers are using this technology to present ideas. Concept development is definitely taking a liking to this technology as well. There are quite a few applications that this technology can jump into, and we are only seeing the start!

If you enjoyed this article, you might want to learn about 3D Printing, or possibly you'd like to join a 3D Printing Community.

Why Just Plunge It When You Can Jet Plunge It

Have you ever been in dire need of a plunger, but couldn’t find one as they are often hidden away since they are so unsightly? Or worse yet, you find a plunger…but it isn’t powerful enough to eliminate the clog. That can be embarrassing to put it mildly. It can also be costly if you have to hire a plumber at night or on the weekend at those “special” after hour rates many of us have unfortunately encountered.

Now both problems are solved! There is now a plunger that is so powerful it will dislodge and clear any clog naturally, without CO2 cartridges. And it is so attractive that people won’t want to hide it in far away places. It is ergonomically designed to fit in with any décor and sit right next to the toilet or sink without looking bad.

It is called a jet plunger and comes with its own storage base, which includes footholds to eliminate having to touch any part of the base. In addition it is made with anti-microbial additives to improve hygiene and keep everything tidy and clean. It will always be there to eliminate any clog that might occur…thus saving embarrassment by both the clogger and the clogee.

In addition, there will no longer be a need for a plumber and their potential bill in the hundreds of dollars to come and fix a clogged toilet, sink, shower or bathtub. A jet plunger pays for itself three times over the first time it is used.

A jet plunger clog breaker delivers seventy cubic inches of compressed air, which is enough power and pressure to clear a clogged toilet jammed with up to three stories of toilet paper!

So, before you or your guests have to deal with the thought of reaching for an old, many times ineffective plunger, you may want to investigate the state of the art, foolproof jet plunger right now so you can sleep better at night knowing you will be able to unclog any drain or toilet when that inevitable “mega clog” comes. In fact you may want to recall that familiar Boy Scout Motto of “Be Prepared” and get one for each of your bathrooms and kitchen so you are never unprepared for that next big clog.

Brick and Concrete Cleaning

Over time, the sun, rain, snow, mold, mildew, algae, smoke, and bird droppings can make brick and concrete surfaces unattractive. But they also pose a threat to the structural integrity of brick and concrete: these substances, when left unattended, could actually start eroding these materials.

Old, spotty paint and graffiti also make brick and concrete surfaces unsightly.

What do you do when you want your building to look nice, respectful, professional, and inviting, and you've got problems like these all over the exterior? Calling up a brick and concrete cleaning contractor could be the beginning of a solution for you.

But what do these cleaners do, and how do they do it?

Brick and concrete cleaners will use what's called abrasive blasting. It's the process of harnessing pressure to propel abrasive material directly at the brick and concrete surfaces, in order to remove the contaminants, and to make the surface smoother and more handsome.

Here's a list of some of the abrasives the contractor will use: glass bead blasting, sand blasting, soda blasting, or shot blasting.

Compressed air or liquid propels these materials onto the target surface. In the case of compressed air, the materials are propelled dry; in the case of liquid, they are propelled in a concentrated jet of water.

Some of the abrasive materials used are silica sand (this is the most common one); coal slag; metallic, synthetic, or mineral abrasives; and organic materials. The organic materials are comprised of ground nut shells, fruit kernels, and baking soda. They tend to be the best abrasives for cleaning brick, stone work, and for removing graffiti. That's because they pose the lowest risk of damaging the contact material.

When it comes to equipment, brick and concrete cleaning contractors will bring in highly specialized tools and protection because of some dangerous health hazards associated with this type of work.

The basic components to the abrasive blasting mechanism are the mixer, an exhaust hood, a nozzle, and a gas supply line (for compressed air, the dry blasting technique).

The brick and concrete cleaning specialist will contain the area within a blast room. In here all the blasting goes on, and the blasting system is housed inside, too. They'll place a dust collector in the containment area.

What's called a "blast cabinet" is similar to the blast room but with one addition, a "closed-loop reclaim" system that recycles the abrasive blasting materials.

Talk with your brick and concrete cleaning service about how it plans to treat your surfaces. You should know that brick requires a significantly lower pressure than concrete: between 500 and 1000 pounds per square inch (PSI). The brick and concrete cleaning contractor should know that blasting on brick should not exceed 1500 PSI, and that 5000 PSI would ultimately damage the brick, possibly causing much more harm than the substances you're trying to blast off of it.

Here's a partial list of the services brick and concrete cleaning can provide:

Building exteriors; brick restoration; monument and statue cleaning; mold, smoke, and water damage cleaning; graffiti and paint removal; sidewalk cleaning; and oil-stain removal.

Who should hire a brick and concrete cleaning service?

If you want to clean up the weathered look of your property, business, or manufacturing facility, a brick and concrete cleaning contractor can definitely help.

Then there's the question of erosion. Are those materials that stain your building doing more than aesthetic harm? It's very likely. They could erode the materials, and a brick and concrete cleaning service can help you determine if this is the case.

How about the benefits and drawbacks to brick and concrete cleaning?

Let's start with the drawbacks. They mainly have to do with health hazards. Silica and sand blasting creates huge clouds of dust. Exposure to silica dust can cause Silicosis, a nasty lung disease.

Heat exhaustion and excessive noise are two other threats to abrasive blasting workers.

But some of the abrasive materials available pose much lower health risks, and if the work environment is treated correctly, and the right precautions are taken, health hazards are greatly diminished.

Coal slag contains very low silica levels, so it doesn't contribute to the risk of developing Silicosis. (The con with coal, though: it can release other pollutants into the air.) Metallic, synthetic, and mineral abrasives cause much lower dust and waste levels than sand and coal. And the organic abrasives won't damage the contact material.

Consider the safety equipment available to the workers: Blast hoods and helmets; an air hose that filters out hazardous gases like carbon monoxide; special lenses on the helmets; ear muffs and body protection (gloves, overalls, leather coats, leather pants, a canvas blast suit).

Here's the bottom line with brick and concrete cleaning:

The elements - and graffiti artists - can make your brick and concrete building surfaces unattractive (or can threaten to erode them). Brick and concrete cleaning can bring these materials back to their brand-new look, and can protect against erosion.

He Most Common Dog Skin Problems

A healthy animal will also have healthy skin. If dog skin problems occur, it generally indicates that the dog has an underlying condition. These conditions can be caused by multiple factors, including infections, pests, and allergies. Stress or metabolic disorders can also create problems. When a pets external appearance noticeably worsens in any way, medical help should be sought. Letting conditions become chronic can cause further damage to the health of a pet. In addition, some untreated conditions are contagious and can infest other animals. Some can even be passed to humans.

The symptoms of problems are very diverse. Key behaviors such as frantic scratching, frequent licking, or even chewing should not be ignored. Pets might also signal discomfort by rubbing up against furniture or carpets. When these behaviors are recognized, a closer look should be taken at the fur and skin of the animal.

If there are any scabs, scaly patches, bald spots, rashes or lesions, a veterinarian should be notified. Other reasons for concern include redness, blood, pus, swelling, lumps or discoloration. There are many different conditions that can cause these symptoms and they are best detected by a professional.

Pests may be the source of problems. The bites and droppings of fleas can create lingering irritation. Some pets may even be allergic to the saliva in a flea bite, making matters worse. In addition to this, certain flea control methods readily available on the market can be aggravating.

Different infections can plague the skins surface. These include fungal, bacterial or yeast type infections. Fungal infections can include ringworm. Ringworm can result in the presence of scaly patches, baldness and irritation. Ringworm is particularly troublesome as it can be passed to other animals as well as people if left untreated. Bacterial or yeast infections normally occur only after the skin is compromised, further exacerbating the original problem.

Allergies can affect skin as well. These may be aggravated by naturally occurring irritants from the outdoors or allergies to food. Outdoor allergies improve or worsen with the seasons, and depend on the circulating amounts of dust, pollen, grass, or mold. Foods that typically cause reactions contain chicken, beef, soy, corn or wheat based ingredients. Food additives, such as colorings, can also be aggravating.

Problems may also have a behavioral component. A dog living in a very loud environment may experience heightened levels of stress. As a result, it may lick and gnaw at itself. It can also perform the same behaviors simply if it is bored. This is one reason why daily exercise and attention are very important for pets.

Most of these issues are preventable. One method of prevention is using only dog appropriate products on a dog. A hypoallergenic diet ensures that pets receive a nutritious and healthy meal without any artificial or unnecessary ingredients. Dogs should live in a calm, clean and quiet environment to limit stress levels and discourage the proliferation of pests. A veterinarian can provide a series of suggestions on how to further prevent parasite infestation.

Black Mold Is A Dangerous Fungus

Mold is a fungus development , which starts with a microscopic spore. It can easily spread in damp environment like food and wood. It can be beneficial; for example, the antibiotic penicillin is a mold. Usually you can find mold everywhere but the mold at workplace and dwelling can become a largest difficulty.

As I mentioned above mold grows anywhere that dark and dank conditions that let them to grow . When you try to kill them, they take to the air, scattering themselves with no forethought to the damage they can cause . They are simply trying to live on.

Spores can be spreaded over air and there is is chance to inhale them and more over it can be absorbed through skin .And, because some people are more susceptible than others, one person may turn out to be harmed by exposure to mold in the dwelling, another person sharing the same surroundings is essentially unaffected.

People who are very much sensitive with immune system deficiencies due to disease, chemotherapy are more vulnerable to intense illness .

Everybody on the earth is more worried about health issues caused by mold. In particular, stachybotrys chartarum, which you may have heard about as "toxic black mold", has been blamed for causing fitness troubles. It is greenish-black, slimy, and can expand in homes with water damage

Common effects from molds such as stachybotrys atra, penecillium, cladosporium and quite a few strains of aspergillius, are asthma, pneumonitis, upper respiratory troubles, sinusitis, dry cough, skin rashes, stomach upset, headaches, disorientation and bloody noses. Numerous other species of mold and mildew are also deadly, and many mycotoxins are well-known carcinogens. Severe exposures can lead to internal bleeding, kidney and liver failure and pulmonary emphysema. Such health risks due to the presence of mold in a dwelling are a serious concern to occupants, and can pose impending liability for owners of rental properties.

All the residential properties are widley getting tainted because of mold. Although mankind has been informed for thousands of years that mold thrives in damp environment, only in recent times have we begun to understand how dramatically its existence can influence us. Wash Your Windows Like A Pro

Have you ever wondered how those professional window washers move so fast with the squeegee, and the windows turn out perfect? Well, there really are some tricks to it that are simple to learn, and once you do, dare I say it, you may even enjoy washing windows? It is possible!

The first trick is to invest in a good squeegee. They aren't expensive and they are worth every cent! Those $1.99 ones just will not do. A professional squeegee has a very soft, rubber blade with no imperfections in it. You can also get extra rubber blades and simply replace those when they wears out. There are probably many sources to get one, but a source I like is The Clean Team. http://www.TheCleanTeam.com.

Secondly, do your windows on a cool, or cloudy day. If you have to do it in the sun, do it in the morning. What you want to avoid here is heat. Heat works against you.

Get a bucket of lukewarm water (not hot), and add 2-3 tablespoons of plain ammonia. Use a sponge that has a white scrubber on the other side. Wet your window with the sponge side, then flip to the white scrub pad side, and scrub the window. You'll be able to "feel" when it's clean. You'll feel rough patches, etc when it's still not clean. This is a step most people fail at, if the window simply isn't clean, it's going to look cloudy when done. Scrub well.

You'll also need lots of clean, white cotton rags towels/cleaning cloths. Diapers work great here. Dry by hand a 1-inch strip at the top of the window. The trick for no streaks with the squeegee is placing the dry rubber blade on a dry window.

Take the squeegee now and place it at the top of the window in that 1-inch dry strip. Pull down smoothly. Dry your squeegee blade with between each sweep. Finish window, if need be do one last sweep left to right at the bottom of the window.

Take a dry, clean cloth and run with your finger down each window side and across the bottom to clean and dry the edges. They should look perfect! And you'll feel great having clean windows.

Building Maintenence Techniques- Basic Cleaning

Learning to become a professional custodian or housekeeper can be a challenging and rewarding career. Your job is important to the image of the facility and to the health of all who enter the building.

As with every job, you must first master the basics before you are able to tackle the more complex cleaning tasks and procedures. The following is a short list of basic tips and techniques to help you save time, increase productivity, and be on your way to becoming a valuable cleaning professional.

1. Be prepared

Having to stop in the middle of a job to find more cleaning solution, hand towels, or trash bags can really slow you down. So before you begin cleaning, make sure you have a cart loaded with all the supplies you'll need, from cleaning chemicals to personal protective equipment such as gloves and goggles, to equipment such as brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners and replacement bags.

2. Follow the rules:

To make the most of your time and cleaning efforts, follow these simple rules for cleaning:

a) Clean from top to bottom, bringing the soil to the lowest level. It doesn't make sense to wet mop the floors before you finish high dusting, right?

b) Clean from dry to wet.

c) Clean from dirtiest to cleanest.

d) Use a pattern such as working clockwise around the room when dusting or wiping walls.

e) Finally, when mopping, start from the furthest corner and work toward the door.

f) Policing.

Policing is the frequent cleaning of highly visible areas of your facility such as restrooms, entryways and busy hallways. Being alert for debris on floors and carpets, spills, fingerprints on glass and doors, overflowing trash receptacles and low paper supplies enhances the facilities appearance and shows that you care about the impression it makes. Everyone in the department should be in the habit of policing.

4. Daily, Detail and Project Cleaning

Setting up a cleaning schedule for an entire facility can be a big challenge. Breaking down cleaning tasks into daily, detail and project cleaning can assist your department with the upkeep of the facility.

By understanding how tasks are scheduled for your building, you become a major part of the quality of cleanliness practiced by your department. Daily cleaning tasks involve procedures such as: mopping, vacuuming, trash removal and restroom cleaning. Detail cleaning are tasks that are done approximately once a month and usually include: wiping vents, washing walls, carpet bonneting and scrubbing and recoating floors. Project cleaning tasks are performed 1-2 times a year and usually involve stripping and recoating floors, carpet extracting, wood floor refinishing and furniture cleaning.

Pay close attention to how these tasks are scheduled for your facility. Help your supervisor keep track of jobs that could be performed more or less often. Because some of these procedures happen only a few times a year, take a few minutes to brush up on the techniques before performing the job.

5. Clean Up Your Equipment

After finishing with any cleaning job, it is important to clean your equipment and store all equipment and tools in a clean dry place. By taking care of the equipment in your facility, it lasts longer, works more dependably and makes a good impression on you and your department.

Bird Dust Air Purifier----5 Features To Have In An Air Cleaner For Birds

Bird dust often proves to be daunting to eliminate. The layer of white powder that African Greys, Cockatiels, Cockatoos and some Amazons produce is unending. Using an air purifier with the right stuff can drastically reduce the dust. Here are 5 features that will insure clean air.

Using an air purifier is one of the most effective ways to keep these fine particulates under control, and here are 5 features the cleaner should have.

24 Hour Cleaning Capability---White wing dust is what helps keep powder parrots' wings healthy and beautiful. And so these particles will be a fact of life for as long as you have your pet. Bird dust is produce continually and so to be effective a cleaner must be able to take it out as continually as it is produced.

This keeps your pet's notoriously tiny air passages clearer. Clean air passages have a positive effect on the quality and quantity of life your avian friend will enjoy. The bird's owners need to stay healthy, and breathing large amounts of this dust over a long period of time can aggravate existing conditions and cause new problems to begin.

Low, Medium, And High Speeds---Some days there are going to be more particles in the air than other days. When there are more particles in the air, an air purifier should be able to take out more at a faster rate. This means particles spends less time in the air and that drastically reduces the amount you and your bird are forced to inhale.

Fresh Air As The Only Result---An effective cleaner should be able to send 250 cubic feet of fresh clean air into your room every 60 seconds. This should be without any amount of ozone or ionized particles.

The debate continues about if and how much ozone is harmful; and whether ionized particles do more harm than good. But all are in agreement that there is no down side to fresh, clean air. So selecting a unit that only produces clean air is the healthiest solution.

HEPA Filter---HEPA is a shortened version of high efficiency particle arresting. This type of filter by definition must be able to remove 99.97 of airborne particles that are .3 microns or larger.

That includes not only bird dust but more normal household pollutants such as dust, dust mites, mold and mildew spores, bacteria, and viruses. The benefit to you and your bird is that for every 100,00 airborne particulates this type of technology will remove all but 3 particles down to .3 microns in size with a micron being defined as one millionth of a meter. This type of filter is so effective that hospitals use it to insure clean air.

Numerous Other Particle Filters---As efficient as a HEPA is, having it as the only filter would mean that it would fill unnecessarily quickly with big particles that could be trapped by other types of filters.

Your cleaner should have at least 2 pre-filters that eliminate the big particles before they clog the HEPA. This will eliminate large and medium size particles that can be seen without magnification.

Carbon cloth is another filter that the unit should have particularly with birds. Since every animal has a unique smell, being able to eliminate odors and other gaseous pollutants is a huge advantage towards keeping your bird safe. And because the nature of this filter is a cloth, it gives you a 4th filter for particle removal.

A cleaner with these features will go a long way towards keeping you and your bird happy and healthy for many years to come.

How Mold Removal is Performed

Mold is a common household toxin but many people think first of mold growing on food items in their kitchen rather than in their walls, under their floors, or in their attic or basement. The fact is, mold grows anywhere there is moisture for more than 24 to 48 hours. Mold is a common problem after flooding as certain items, such as carpet and flooring, furniture, household items, and other objects remain wet for days. Still, even without a major flood, parts of your home or office could be growing mold unbeknownst to you because of something as simple as a minor leak. The only way to be safe from the potentially hazardous effects of mold is to remove the mold and remedy the source.

Mold can grow anywhere, including within your walls, under your flooring, or essentially anywhere water can gain access. The obvious time to inspect for mold is after a flooding occurs, whether caused by nature or an accidental pipe burst or water backup. However, it doesn't take an accident or natural disaster to cause mold. Areas of the home where moisture could be a routine problem caused by leaks include bathrooms, basements, and areas around windows and doors, as well as the attic.

If you suspect mold because of flooding or have seen signs of molding, including the growth of dark spots on ceilings, around windows or doors, or notice an unusual smell, the first thing to do is to request a mold inspection. Mold doesn't necessarily give off signs either, so if you have recently moved into a new home and are curious about possible mold due to previous events or maintenance upkeep, a mold inspection is a good idea.

A mold inspection can be quickly conducted within your home or office by trained technicians working for reputable damage and restoration companies that also specialize in mold detection and removal. Typically, all that is involved is entry into your home with special equipment that is able to determine the mold count in the air. This specialized type of machinery can determine not only the presence of mold but the type of mold as well. If mold is found, a technician can determine the source and help you to proceed with removal and remediation.

The key to stopping mold growth is to stop the moisture source. If flooding is the problem, there may be nothing you can do except hope it doesn't happen again but in some cases, you may be directed towards repairs to sewer or plumbing lines, as well as drainage solutions for your yard that may help avoid future problems. If the source is a leak in a window, door or the roof, then the necessary repairs will need to be made to stop the entry of water. Repairs may range from replacing a window or door frame altogether to simply caulking a joint, fascia board, or other problem area.

To remove mold properly, the entire area needs to be cleaned and sanitized if possible and if not, removed and replaced. The measures taken to effectively remove mold will vary from situation to situation. In some cases, such as with flooring, it requires removal of carpet, padding, laminate or tile flooring, all the way down to the sub-flooring. Removal experts will use special equipment to remove all traces of moisture before replacing flooring to prevent trapping more moisture underneath the new floor. When it comes to mold growth in the walls or on drywall, it may be necessary to remove damaged drywall and studs and replace them.

mold removal on non-porous, hard surfaces can usually be done by thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing the surface and then quickly drying it. If you notice mold growth on hard, non-porous surfaces within your home, you can remove it by using a bleach solution. However, if you aren't sure of the cause or source of moisture, it would be wise to consult a professional for inspection and repair. If any part of your home suffers from extensive water damage, you should call a restoration company within the first 24 to 48 hours to avoid extensive molding. Mold grows quickly and will begin to grow in fabrics and porous surfaces within 24 hours.

Though mold removal may seem a difficult, expensive process, a professional mold removal technician can make quick and easy work of it. Inspection, removal and correction of the problem now could save you from extensive, more costly repairs later and is far better for your health than waiting years until an irreversible health condition arises as a result of mold.Starting any new business is a big decision. Choosing a path such as a water damage franchise with Restoration1 can take a lot of stress and uncertainty from the process.
